In order to work on raising environmental awareness through various activities, LUKOIL SRBIJA and the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, in cooperation with the Sombor Goran Movement and with the support of the Sombor municipality, launched an environmental initiative to raise the road belt, tree line along Sombor’s industrial road.

Students of the Faculty of Forestry and the people of Sombor, together with volunteers from Sombor, representatives of the City Administration and LUKOIL SRBIJA company, took part in the action of planting 1,300 acacia and oak seedlings. At the same time, this activity is a part of field teaching for students attending the Faculty of Forestry, which, in addition to the environmental, also has an educational component.

"It is no small thing planting 1300 trees in one day. We are a socially responsible company. We live in nature, nature surrounds us and we will leave it to our own children. That is why the topic of ecology is extremely important. LUKOIL has been operating in Sombor for a long time and wants to participate in the development of the local community, to influence the quality of life of the citizens of Sombor, and, consequently, our employees”, said Ana Janković, HR Director at LUKOIL SRBIJA.

“The local government of the City of Sombor supported us logistically, i.e., by choosing and approving the location, as well as with volunteer work. In addition, JKP Zelenilo provided its workers who mechanically drilled 150 planting pits for oak seedlings", said Siniša Borota, assistant mayor for environmental protection and thanked LUKOIL SRBIJA for this initiative.

As Predrag Miljković, assistant with a doctorate from the Faculty of Forestry, points out, this type of activity is extremely important for the future of all of us, because caring for the environment is one of the missions of the Faculty of Forestry.

From the students' point of view, such activities are of multiple importance: "I am very glad to be a part of such a noble task. In general, nowadays, ecology is very current, as is climate change, so by this act we will contribute to the improvement of the environment to a degree", said Marija Pjanić, a master's student at the Faculty of Forestry.
