Representatives of the LUKOIL SRBIJA collective carried out a waste clean-up action on part of the Great War Island with the support of the JKP Zelenilo Beograd. Under the guidance of its experts, the cleaning action, primarily of plastic and glass waste washed up by the Danube, was organized along the shore at the very tip of the island which is located opposite the Nebojša Tower on Kalemegdan. During the action, which was carried out on an inaccessible wooded strip 500 meters long, more than 40 bags (about 10 cubic meters) of garbage were collected. As part of Company`s socially responsible activities, LUKOIL SRBIJA employees wanted to make its contribution and highlight the importance of a unique natural oasis in the center of the capital with a fascinating almost untouched ecosystem, as well as the necessity of preserving indigenous, rare and endangered species such as white-tailed eagles.
This type of activity is necessary in spring due to the debris that is washed up by the river during the winter period. Since it is a protected area where rare plant and animal species live, it was necessary that all activities be carried out in accordance with current statutory regulations and with care for the safety of the participants.
JKP Zelenilo-Beograd thanked LUKOIL SRBIJA company for cooperating and participating in the cleaning and landscaping of the Great War Island, emphasizing that the achieved result is of immense importance for the protection of its biodiversity.
