PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE BOMBING OF BELGRADE WAS OPENED WITH THE SUPPORT OF LUKOIL

{ 4/6/2021 12:00:00 AM }

LUKOIL SERBIA assisted in organising photography exhibition marking 80 years since the Nazi bombing of Belgrade on the Republic Square. The exhibition will last until April the 9th and it is planned to be only the beginning of celebrating the «Days of Belgrade», traditionally organized each April. Another tradition is that this event is among the projects of the City of Belgrade supported by LUKOIL SERBIA in keeping with the Cooperation Agreement.

The event was attended by the General Director of LUKOIL SRBIJA Denis Ryupin and the HR Director Ana Janković, as well as the representatives of the City of Belgrade, Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić and Assistant Mayor Andreja Mladenović, Ambassador of Russia to Serbia H.E. Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, Director of «Dadov» Vladimir Mijović.

For the first time, Belgrade citizens and guests of our capital are able to see the photos of the destruction of Belgrade 80 years ago. These photographs, that were, among other, taken by German pilots, show the level of destruction suffered by the Yugoslav capital. More than 2500 people lost their lives in that bombing, although the accurate number of casualties has still not been identified as, unfortunately, not all the names of the victims are known. 700 buildings were completely destroyed, while thousands were destroyed to the extent that they could no longer be used for living. Belgrade was bombed five times during the 20th century, but that bombing was the most devastating of all.

A series of events will be organized within the «Days of Belgrade» that will end on April 19th with the erection of the monument dedicated to Despot Stefan Lazarevic, the ruler who was the first to declare Belgrade the capital of Serbia.
